We are excited to introduce our brand new brain training game, Team Builder! Have fun honing your Social Skills!
How to Play Team Builder?
Study all available candidates. Consider each person’s habits and preferences and create the perfect team. This game focuses on your ability to leverage emotional information to make better decisions with others. Touch and drag a person’s photo onto the board. Touch Submit when you’re done. Can you create the best team?
How does Team Builder stimulate your Emotional Intelligence?
Team Builder is a brain training game created to stimulate Social Skills. By asking you to consider the habits and preferences of others to form a strong team and master the game, you are training your ability to use these same important skills in your daily life. Social Skills are the ability to leverage emotional information to make better decisions and facilitate stronger social bonds. Social skills apply to many aspects of our life, a large part being in the workplace, but also among friends and family.
New Year’s Resolutions. Most of us make them, but many of us break them. According to studies on the science of motivation, only up to 30% of us will stick with our good intentions or changes that we have resolved to make. Most shockingly? According to the author, research even finds that “the better we feel about our new year’s resolutions and our ability to stick with them, the less we actually will.” (Crew, 2014). Wait. Say that again? This may be because the more optimistic or over-confident you are, the fewer safeguards you will put in place to ensure follow-through.
So how do you improve your chances of keeping your new year’s resolution?
For starters, writing down your goal or resolution is helpful, but did you know that even how you phrase your resolution matters? According to one study, writing it as an “if-then” statement (e.g, If I go to a restaurant then I will order a side salad instead of french fries) improves your odds of follow-through, as opposed to just writing something like “eat more salad at restaurants instead of fries.” Reportedly, “For whatever reason, research suggests that our brains can get tricked into automatically and subconsciously responding to if/then statements.” (Crew, 2014). In addition to putting your resolution in writing and phrasing it appropriately here are a few other simple tips that can help better your chances of successfully sticking with your resolution:
Keep your resolution attainable (like if you committed to improving your brain health that’s actually pretty fun and easy if you play Fit Brains brain games).
Read your written resolution daily.
Spread the word. If your friends, family and colleagues know what your resolution is, they can help keep you accountable!
If you haven’t made a resolution yet, you still can! When you think about it, what could be more important than committing to better brain health in 2016? Whether you want to maintain a healthy brain and strong memory as you age, improve your speed of thinking on the job, or maintain better focus at school or work, Fit Brains brain games can help stimulate all areas of your brain function for better health.
It’s the holidays and many of us are scrambling around trying to find that perfect gift for someone special (or, maybe just ANY gift at this point!) While it may feel like a chore to pick out a gift, giving someone a gift is actually good for your brain! That’s right, not only is it fun to receive gifts, when you give a gift it’s proven to have a positive effect on your mental well-being!
Studies at the National Institutes of Health found that gift-giving activates different regions in your brain linked to pleasure, social connection and trust, which is good for the overall health of your brain. What’s more, when you give, you also tend to create an atmosphere of generosity, increasing the likelihood that others around you will be more generous too! (Yeah, this could work in your favor!)
Before you rush to the first item you see, keep in mind that the positive effects will be more powerful if you give a gift that is meaningful. And, who doesn’t want to challenge their brain? Fit Brains has something to offer everyone. And, with the most games and variety of any brain training program on the market, it’s sure to entertain anyone.
In honor of National Dunce day we bring you a bit of history about the term “dunce,” and we implore you not to be one. Dunce day is named for Duns Scotus, a medieval scholar from Scotland, who believed that wearing a cone shaped hat increased one’s learning potential. The idea was that knowledge would flow from the tip of the hat down into the brain. Not surprisingly, the idea didn’t really catch on (though it would be pretty great if it actually was this easy to learn new things), and anyone wearing the “dunce cap” was in turn called a “dunce” (and it wasn’t anymore positive then than it is now).
Now, you can choose to either celebrate Dunce day by celebrating stupidity, or you can honor it as a day of improving your brain through brain training. (We’d offer up a list of stupid things you can do if you choose the former, but we’re afraid that will land us in a heap of trouble so you’re on your own if you go that route.)
Instead, on this day we want to motivate you to hearken back to the original intentions of Duns Scotus and set aside some time to try and better yourself and train your brain for better health and wellness. Read a book, train your brain with Fit Brains fun brain games, play some chess, find something that speaks to you today, which can also boost your intellect and your brain health!

Zombies, witches, machete-wielding maniacs, the typical horrors of Halloween have nothing on your shrinking brain. That’s right. SHRINKING BRAIN. Prepare to be scared.
You may feel perfectly healthy, but your brain is shrinking and you are losing as much as 0.4% of your brain mass every.single.year. Obviously this isn’t good news. A shrinking brain means loss of memory and mental sharpness, severe depression and even premature death (cue the sound of that machete-wielding maniac).
Take heart on this darkest of days. There are things you can do to prevent your brain from shrinking further and improve your brain health!
Get a good night’s sleep (every night). This is critical. Every hour of reduced sleep duration= a 0.67% decrease in cognitive function!
Don’t smoke. I don’t think we need to go into much more detail about this one, but we’ll just add that smoking is associated with faster brain shrinkage and poor brain health.
Feel free to indulge in a little light alcohol consumption (this is our favorite tip), but don’t overdue or you’ll only make things worse for your brain (not to mention your liver…) A standard drink= 14.0 grams or 0.6 ounces of pure alcohol.
Supplement with B vitamins, specifically a combination of folate, vitamin B12 and vitamin B6. B vitamins regulate homocysteine, which if unchecked, can lead to significant brain shrinkage and dementia.
Indulge in Omega 3 fatty acids. Salmon, walnuts, sardines, beef (specifically grass-fed), soybeans, flaxseeds, tofu, shrimp, brussels sprouts, and cauliflower are some of the foods that are rich in Omega 3’s.
Have a daily dose of pomegranate. Studies have demonstrated significant improvements in cognition and memory among those who consume 8 ounces of pomegranate juice daily!
Find a way to get Resveratrol (a major component of red grapes and other dark fruits) into your body, whether you like to drink red wine in moderation, or you can simply take a Resveratrol supplement.
Cognitive stimulation and training helps grow more brain cells which counteracts against brain shrinkage.
So, while there is no denying that you should be worried about your shrinking brain, at least now you know that there is hope when you take the proper steps to maintain better brain health!
